forever ago, I was working with a woman who had two teenagers, and was very involved in PTA, etc. I haven't a clue what kind of parent she was, but she was a decent enough human being. She shared with me a poster that basically said "You should talk to your parents if you're having problems because they want to help" and the first words out of my mouth were "What if it's the parents who ARE the problem?" She didn't have a clue how to respond, and that's about all I could manage to produce language for.
