Thanks for the great info! I always worry when I want to write a post like this that I'll be getting out of my depth, as a non-biologist. Then again, the real point is about discourse, not science, because the people who use the sort of discourse that I'm complaining generally never went beyond sixth-grade science.
I'm convinced that a lot of transphobia is rooted not solely in fear of and disgust for people whose existence challenges the undesirability of being feminine, but also in sheer unwillingness to let go of the 'truths' one learned in school when very young, which simplify the world so (which likely were learned from other people who also thought about the world simplistically).
