I'm 46. I'm back at university, studying Creative Writing. I've been unemployed for most of the past ten years, and I'm not studying the degree I'm studying in the hopes of getting a job out of it at the other end of things, either. I'm studying it because I want to do something I like with my life, and I want to study something which interests me. I tried studying computer science - I bombed out of it with a near-breakdown, and I don't want to go back, because it really doesn't interest me, and I'm not that keen on the culture, either (the complete lack of ethical consideration in what I was being taught - the complete lack of consideration of the question of "is what I'm being asked to do a good, right, or necessary thing to do?" - was another thing which really turned me off the discipline. With great power comes great responsibility... except, apparently, if you're the person who programs the computers of great power). So I'll keep working away on this Creative Writing degree, and see whether I can actually wind up finishing the blasted thing this time.
