Since different people can disagree about what gender they perceive a different person to be (as you'll learn if you ever get to witness two people arguing with equal conviction over what gender you are, based on a photo), it doesn't really make much sense to talk about what gender a person is perceived as, but rather, only what gender a given person perceives that person to be.
