I think she was trying to shame people into not talking about this particular feminist issue by implying "you're a bad feminist if you suggest that people ought to be take responsibility for, and be honest about, their choices."
I didn't see where she suggested repealing laws that make it easier to change your name on marriage than at any other time -- but I might have missed it. And like etb, I wonder why she isn't writing about how bad it is that women can't take their husbands' names in Quebec. This woman was pissed off, and probably others are too.
I also agree with etb that it's disingenuous to suggest that people who need to put on a heteronormative act for immigration purposes (say) are anything but a tiny minority of patriarchal-naming-convention-accepters. It's like when people with no disabilities whatsoever use the existence of disabled people who supposedly can't take public transit as a justification for why they drive everywhere.
