Honestly, I think it's simpler than that: people don't care about trans women getting murdered because they don't believe trans women are human.

It's not like posting hopeful videos on the Internet stops gay kids from committing suicide any more than it stops people from murdering trans women. So if people gave a shit about trans women, they would at least be *trying* the fix-it-quick gestures. People send around email forwards "helpfully" telling women how they can avoid being raped; that's a fix-it-quick gesture that's worse than doing nothing, but if people cared about violence against trans women, they'd be doing similar things.
