I believe (I was about 15 feet from Doitse when he made these remarks, but haven't watched the video) that he was making exactly your point. In other words, he gets a large number of excellent female math "majors" (I don't know the Dutch system) in his introductory Haskell courses, but that "they", being mathematicians rather than computer scientists, aren't a great source of future Haskell programmers.
